Music Portfolio / Store

Having grown up in the working class, Nicholas uses songwriting as both catharsis and self-discovery. He believes "that there is an ideal, honest way to live and through the writing process, I'll be able to find it".

With the release of his new EP "The Greatest Enemy”, Nicholas looks set to get back on the road and reconnect with audiences. To him, rediscovering that connection between audience and performer is "the best feeling on earth and I want to keep chasing it".

Vision For The Year

A new year has arrived and with it, comes uncertainty about the future but also, hope for better things to happen. I’ve decided to share my “mission statement”, a set of overarching principles, that I’d work to keep to for 2019.

These would govern my goals and thereby the steps I take to achieve them. If our personalities are anything alike, I hope that sharing this would help you to widen your perspective and become a better version of yourself.

Focus on the Inside

Recently I’ve started practicing my own kind of meditation in the mornings. While having my tea, I remind myself that the day would be successful not by how many tasks I complete, but rather how I complete them. I acknowledge that there is so much that I’m not in control of, but if I maintain emotional equilibrium, I can handle anything. After all, my best work comes from when I am present, positive and focused.

I’m Already Enough

In my weekly schedule, I now allot time to simply rest, because that is how I’ve chosen to love myself. After all, if I don’t prioritise the act of loving myself, then everything I set out to do would be hollow.

In that rest, I recite to myself that whether I succeed or fail today, I am still good enough, that I deserve and am worthy of love. That quiet assurance allows me to do things with intent and purpose and in return, I derive much more fulfilment from them.

Believe in the process.

Check That Attitude

Outside of writing, recording and performing music, I’ve learned to accept that though some days will be filled with menial but necessary tasks, even things I absolutely hate, they are still part of a musician’s life. More often than not, they are what pays the bills so that I can keep doing what I love.

I used to whine a lot through jobs I didn’t like, then it dawned on me that I needed to fix that attitude. Even though it might be uncomfortable, I told myself to keep my eyes on the bigger picture and stay grateful.

Play The Long Game

Music, being an expression of life, is a long and drawn out game and therefore, we need to think about the long term. So build good habits, believe in the process and don’t be afraid to throw away the unnecessary ones. In the end, there’s only so much we can take with us and I don’t want regret to be one of them.

So go and take on the year, it’s already yours! =)
